Re: The carnage continues
This is just so sad...it is obvious that Maryke Van Der Merwe mentioned in the article has very little knowledge of lions from the sick comments that she makes. I certainly would like to have a face to face discussion with her...I doubt if she would get the message though.

Re: The carnage continues
I would rather they shoot a captive bred canned lion than shoot a wild lion that has it's niche in the eco system. Shooting a pride male would have consequances for the whole pride. No sport involved in shooting canned lions but the lesser of the two evils, in my opinion.
Rudeness is the weak man's imitation of strength.

Agreed Gump, but then I don't believe in any form of lion hunting.
Man was placed in charge and given the duty of caring for all creation, are we doing it?

Agreed, Gump!
Lion are not endangered in SA, and can breed like rats.
No problem with cattle being shot for consumption...?

South Africa as a major destination for tourism might be branded for abuse of wildlife and loose european visitors.
Many european media carried this story a long time ago and have been reporting again lately.

Re: The carnage continues
Reading through all the relevant threads, the picture is bleak!
It seems there is NO intention in this country any more to save the dwindling numbers of endangered species. So, I wouldn't blame international tourists for not visiting here in future. It's much like one of us planning a trip to see the Leaning Tower, and just before the final arrangements are in place it topples over, what's the point of going?

Sometimes it’s not until you don’t see what you want to see, that you truly open your eyes.
