Excellent sighting of a Potter Wasp Delta emarginatum
They provision the nest with caterpillars and then close the nest.
A brief bush anniversary trip.

Re: A brief bush anniversary trip.
Very green bush at the moment
Normally its the predators or big 5 that get tracked .Must be special research project . Definitely is a two way streets with the facilities .
The tar roads were actually in an ok condition apart from one bridge close to the gate that seems to have been washed away but not heard of any heavy rain so not too sure when that damage occurred .
Thanks for the ID Klipspringer . Seemed to be somethings moving inside the nest but I did not want to disturb it by getting too close .Klipspringer wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 6:57 pm Excellent sighting of a Potter Wasp Delta emarginatum

Re: A brief bush anniversary trip.
As we came over the crest of the ridge there was an OSV further along the ridge and to the side of the ridge was this handsome fellow .A blackie
The OSV left and we got a little closer .He was not a happy chap and obviously had intentions to go across the road so we took a few more quick pics and left him to make his move .
Further down the road the OSV had met a roadblock
We drove closer and found a shady tree to watch the OSV reversing .
Not sure if the guests asked or they had somewhere else to be but the OSV turned around and left ..
We waited and he walked down to our shady tree so we moved back .He decided to rest and scratch behind his ears then wondered off down a game trail and we carried on down the road .
Down a side road we found a tower .
and as the adults moved off the road this little punk watched us
We carried on with our trip ...

Re: A brief bush anniversary trip.
the elie was not too grumpy towards us but we did keep our distance .
not too many on this trip. A couple in the last episode .
we found the youngsters seem to be less used to vehicles but I guess they have had a few quiet months

Re: A brief bush anniversary trip.
and onto the last episode in this quick trip ...
Some workers were cleaning up the roads
This interesting plant stood out as unusual to me with its fruit
A snake eagle was on the lookout for snakes ...
As was the Secretary bird
Some ellies were seeking out water in the very low riverbed .
By this stage of the day the heat was on and the animals were getting scarce .The Last ones we met before arriving at Cengeni gate were
We arrived at Cengeni gate .Stopped to go to the toilet at the office and found it abandoned not a person inside anywhere We went to the toilet then did some lunch to eat on the trip home . Coincidentally a vehicle arrived at the gate on the outside . A gate guard and receptionist appeared from somewhere in the staff housing and seemed quite surprised to find us at the office .We left and had a interesting drive home as half way to Richards bay the road literally disappears and you end up on a dirt holed track for about 10km then it goes back to tar again
