For us this is always a wonderful drive either late in the afternoon because same is only 4 Kilometers long until Matjulu and normally there is always something to be seen or early in the morning where you then continue your drive via the S120.
Here are a couple of pictures we took during our 2017 visit in that area

Pumbaa!
Nice selection indeed!
This area is host to regular Big Five sightings, as well as wild dog and sometimes black rhino. Cheetah do not seem to favour the hilly terrain.
There is a drinking trough that is almost always operational, with a reservoir at the parking. The road continues north privately to the Bushman's Trail basecamp.
The waterhole has ample views and parking, and is the only one in Kruger that is closely surrounded by mountains, making for very interesting lighting and scenery.
Here is a bigger view from Berg & Dal in the south:

Flutts!
Matjulu waterhole is the only Kruger record that I know of of a tourist sighting of mountain reedbuck, coming down to drink one evening!

The road is also the site of the only tourist pic of an aardwolf in Kruger, as far as I know?

The road from Berg & Dal to the waterhole is mostly very rocky and hilly, with sparse grass and vegetation...not such a high density of game!
