The White-fronted Bee-eaters are beautiful.

The causeways are always places for loveliness, be it animals or scenery ^Q^ ^Q^
Totally right we can stop on them always for hours and to wait and simply watch around \O

What an unusual place to see wild dog, and looks a like a big pack. Great pics! X#X [O]

I like the crocs too, and the river views! :-0

Nice T2 friends! O0
It was indeed a nice painted surprise and those meetings or chats with likewise minded people are always the best in Kruger O\/ O\/ O\/

A nice surprise is always to discover goliath herons as they are so impressive because of their size

Image

especially compared with the grey heron who just picked up a small stick

Image

both heron species stood together so close so it was simply a pleasure to get them both on one picture

Image

until the grey heron decided to walk a bit deeper into the water.

Image

Extreme close to where we parked we even discovered another yellow billed stork

Image

and the crocodiles were even closer waiting for some fish

Image

Image

it was such a nice spot to stay and look around as it was so peaceful on top and normally very few traffic so that one can broaden oneself on the causeway without being disturbed and clearing the causeway every now and then to let other cars pass.

Image

We in fact carried on after a while and even noticed from the corner of our eyes also water dikkops out of which most of them were already hidden.

Image

A more than welcome stop we made then at Tshange lookout where we enjoyed to stretch the legs a bit and it was amazing how many different lizards we saw only whilst we walked to the lookout point

Image

must say that some of them were extreme well camouflaged

Image

and the view is simply priceless

Image

and the lizards could meanwhile be found everywhere

Image

and such blue flowers as well.

Meanwhile more cars arrived at that spot and so we carried on after we chatted a while with a couple from Switzerland. Now we drove via the other side of the S52 and consequently via the Shingwedzi back and also on this side of the river the views into same are always worth for a short stop.

Image

Unfortunately sightingwise it got a bit quiet now and only close to Red Rocks some birds revealed themselves only by their noise – brown headed parrots in a tree

Image

with whom we definitely stayed a bit longer.

Image

At Red Rocks we first had to capture a couple of the many white fronted bee eaters

Image

who we often spot there

Image

on the hunt for bees or dragonflies.

Image

Although we already paid so many visits here that spot is always beautiful and always worth a stop although this year not much water was flowing despite the heavy rains only nearly 2 weeks ago

Image

Image

on top it is wonderful to stretch the legs again a bit and to leave the car and on top

Image

we simply did not get enough from our white fronted bee eater friends.

I can easily do without the lions, if I can get all the smaller and less impressive animals, birds, flowers and scenery \O

After we had been satisfied we carried on and stopped for a resting giraffe

Image

and two buffaloes in their private spa

Image

who must have enjoyed the treatment very well.

Image

Image

Meanwhile it was already midday and extreme hot so it got again extreme quiet although we drove each possible loop whilst driving back to camp at least we could pay another visit to our beloved Shingwedzi causeway close to camp where we again spotted a grey heron who just caught an extreme mini fish,

Image

hamerkops

Image

and many crocodiles.

Image

Back in camp we went to the restaurant for a more than nice lunch, paid a final visit to the shop where we again met the woman from the T2 and soon we started to chat about our sightings we had that day and she informed us that they also spotted a pride of lions on the S101 which we drove as well but obviously they were gone already. We still had time for a break on our verandah whilst enjoying the view.

Image

We only left camp extreme late and decided to give also the S134 a try where obviously the lions we heard the whole night had been seen but they were already miles away. At least we spotted a couple of ostriches.

Image

For sure we also drove a short distance on the S50 along the river and we even spotted an open billed stork catching mussels from the river

Image

another interesting sighting for us as we never had thought that there might be mussels in the rivers of the park at least at that size.

Image

Meanwhile the light got better and better and we discovered a juvenile bateleur in a tree not far from our car

Image

same behaved a bit strange but soon we noticed why as another raptor permanently attacked the juvenile bateleur.

Image

Same even spread its wings to hold off the offender

Image

but same never gave up

Image

and all the poses the bateleur tried to keep the attacker away were priceless.

Image

After a while and after the attacks did not stop the bateleur simply took off and flew away.

Image

Back to the Shingwedzi causeway for a final visit the surroundings were meanwhile blazed into the best afternoon light and the birds again plentiful

Image

and also colourful.

Image
