Hi Mel,
It's just a matter of luck. Sightings like this one are rare because of having these 4 cubs just in front or close to the road.
We sometimes are a bit Lucky with this… :O^
Mel wrote: Sun Sep 02, 2018 11:38 am How do you possibly manage to always get such great photos, Aat?! :-0
4 cheetah cubs on a log and two of them looking right at you with their ears up…
That's a dream come true!

Excellent sighting and photos ^Q^ ^Q^ ^Q^

That's really great to hear. I don't know , but it comes to me that the population of Cheetah is "growing". :-)

That family is still going - all 4 cubs still there last week, so fingers crossed! \O

You are right, this kind of sightings are in your mind...hoping to get them this way and most of the time when you do not expect it they are suddenly there. I remember we were searching for some of the tuskers in that area and with some luck we just could see the head of the mom-cheetah in the high grass , otherwise I guess we just passed them without a clue they were there. :-)

Aat & Elly -08- Just a Late Afternoon Drive (smile...)

Post by aat »

Thanks for all comments and RP, good to know they (Cheetah) are still around.

Time for next story , enjoy

08-Just A Late Afternoon Drive (smile)

We were staying in Letaba and we were doubting about doing a late afternoon drive. After 5 seconds …yes we do… let’s gooooo…
Where to go ? Let’s go to Nshawu , Tihongonyeni and back… nice road a who knows… what to see.
First sighting , a large herd of Buffalo

-

-

Turn-off and following the S50 along Nshawu , lots of elephants and slowly moving on to the Capricorn Loop. Just before Tihongonyeni we stopped. So much to see…
First at the RH side a large group of Eland

-
Image
-

More then 20 of them and enjoying the grass and sunset…
Looking ahead I saw some big tusks… it’s him? Yes… NGODZI. So sorry Eland but see you later
Driving up to the waterhole area to have a good view

-
Image
-

Woww… and.. he was coming towards us.
Again a surprise … to the left another group of Eland, about 18 of them.

-
Image
-

So… imagine you are just in front of the waterhole… at the RH side a large group of Eland, in the middle zebra, wildebeast and several elephant bulls and one of them id Ngodzi, at the LH side another group of Eland…
This is Tihongonyeni as it should be !

Pending to the right again , watching these Eland

-

-

In the mean time, NGODZI came closer. Only problem … we were running out of time.

-
Image
-

We had to go back to Letaba, but what a view…
Back to the main road and talking about what we saw and close to the Middelvlei waterhole on the road a Cheetah ? No it’s Leopard , one ? no two ! a female and a male
You can see the female well, in the background you can see the male

-
Image
-

The female did not really like to see the male because just after making this photo she disappeared at the RH side behind some bush. But … the male was still there and he was waiting for us…

-
Image
-

A big boy and very friendly of him… he was sitting down for w while so we could watch him for some time… Time? No .. running out of time …shxxxxxt

-

-

We drove back to Letaba, and just a few minutes before closing time we arrived in a very good mood….. what a drive.

Thanks for being with us again, till next story
