A gabar goshawk caught a female wattled starling in the tree right above our caravan this morning.

Nothing like Shingwedzi camp action ..cant wait to book most of Nov at that camp for next year. ..
Talking about Shingwedz action ..our last trip there was in Aug 2016 and one early morning I found myself on the Picturesque S56 along the Mhpolongo River deep in thought as it had been very quiet that morning ..In the pic below with the enraged Ellie in Musth (Check those wet back legs) the road bends to the left and disappears behind the tree on the left ..I turned into that corner and out reversed this ellie right in front of me ..I slammed the new bakkie into reverse and went ok for 50 metres until I ended up in a bush stuck solid with the Ellie now with its trunk over its tusk (Sure signal that you must now LEAVE the scene fast ) Then I noticed the wet legs ..Then he exploded through the branches of the tree in front of him just like a grenade in Angola and stopped at my grill front of bonnet as he rocked back and forth in total unadulterated anger..I thought ..'So Pete this is how its going to end ..new bakkie 3000 kms on the clock squashed to pulp with me inside ' We stood facing each other for minutes ..no one blinking ..it felt like hours ..finally he huffed and moved 5 steps past me to the right ..I was gone right past him ..Lewis Hamilton would have been proud of that Grand Prix Start ..I made the tar road and went straight back to Shingwedzi shaking like a leaf ..Jane was waiting for me ..Breakfast basket all packed as arranged for a planned trip south to Mooiplaas picnic spot ..I just sat down and said 'I need some sweet tea!!'
