One day that boulder will fall just a matter of time with erosion - these klipspringers must be careful lol

Love the Wahlberg's eagle calling for coffee :-)

We had fun in watching the squirrels and saw quite a lot of them this year despite the dense bush \O

A green backed heron could also be discovered

Image

as well as a dragonfly

Image

and then due to the absence of any other water birds we spend quite a while in watching all the weavers and red bishops

Image

Image

in landing on the reeds in the little pond and the birds were indeed plentiful. To our delight we also spotted a thick billed weaver

Image

also a bird which we do not find that often and also red billed queleas appeared

Image

and we had a great time in observing and photographing all the birds at the weir.

Image

We had to drag ourselves away and carried on but the S114 has never been good to us at this point and it got extreme quiet but we could photograph a lilac breasted roller

Image

and magpie shrikes.

We did not anticipate that much as we already saw that much that day but whilst we stood on the causeway across the Mlambane we had been stopped by an elderly foursome who made us aware of a leopard in a tree only 2 kilos further down the S119 and as it only were 2 kilos we decided to give it a try without any high expectations but to the contrary we were again surprised and although at first stage we only spotted a nice backside plus tail – a leopard is a leopard.

Image

We were confident that we simply had to wait for some activity from the leopard and waited quite a while and finally the leopardess was willing to present as well her beautiful front side

Image

Image

but after only a short while she returned to exactly the same place she was lying just before.

Image

We had no alternative than to practice in patience and again we had luck as finally she turned around and luckily lay down so the photo marathon could be started.

Image

Image

Originally we thought the tree stood farer away maybe on the other side of the river bed but same was extreme close and offered a lot of shade for the leopardess and for the people in the cars which gladly were only few.

Image

I guess due to the time – it was nearly 15.00 o’clock already – and finally she laid exactly the way we wanted her to lay down – it was simply magical and we were already over the moon with such a wonderful leopard sighting.

to be continued……….
