A variety of animals on day 1
and the day is not yet over
Totally right and that happened often in summer when the grass is that high

Great sightings and scenery around Matjulu.
And besides the scenery there are normally a lot of different animals around as well

The giraffes posed simply so nicely so Timon took shot after shot

Next stop was then Afsaal and after the two nights with only a little bit sleep we both needed a strong coffee and for sure a short break. Luckily after the coffee we felt far better and less tired and so we were ready for new adventures and stopped for a group of zebras
with little ones nearly everywhere.
The landscape is lovely with all the koppies but this is also the classical spot the animal shot as there are indeed some to be seen there -
after a closer look we or better to say Timon spotted a family of klipspringers and as we only spotted one single klipspringer last year we were extreme happy to now even discovered three of them already on our first full day.
We always do drive the Biyamiti loop on our first full day and so it was today but meanwhile it got a bit hotter although I must say it was bearable during the day as a strong wind was blowing but the sightings got a bit less but we were entertained by two squirrels out of which the upper one was lying on a smaller branch
and the other one sat on the same branch chewing on something
and now we captured them together
and also from the same spot we photographed a yellow billed hornbill. More hornbills were around as well as a lot of glossy starlings obviously this was a meeting point of them.
Surprisingly we already discovered blue waxbills out of which one willingly posed nicely for us,
we also stopped for elephants,

a Wahlberg eagle
who obviously was also in the need of a coffee
and a woodland kingfisher.
We stopped for a smaller lizard,
discovered already a family of ground hornbills
in a tree
and finally reached Biyamiti weir were indeed only a small runlet was overflowing consequently not that much water birds were around but we noted the ever present African jacanas
and one of our favourites and the so called by us “red ones” – the red bishops.
to be continued…….
