The vast plains of the Serengeti

Magnificent stretches, diversity of landscapes, concentration of animals, thousands of Wildebeests and zebras grazing peacefully at the time I was there, it was not yet the great transhumance (migration). Here too, Lions climb trees and I saw dozens of Leopards ... all LIT !

It is believed that these lions climb trees in order to get away from tsetse flies (large flies with a nasty bite). Lions also tend to climb tees to enjoy a cool breeze. Tree-climbing lions aren't very common. While cubs climb trees for fun, adult lions rarely do, except in some Tanzanian parks and Ugandan parks. It's nice to think of it as a cultural thing.

We were fortunate to spot two prides sprawled out on the stout branches of flat-topped acacia trees. No one exactly knows why these lions take to the trees while most grown lions don't climb. These particular trees do seem custom designed for lion comfort: They are easy to climb and provide a cool resting place away from biting flies and herds of buffalo and elephant.
