I think that belongs on a different, but very important discussion...including foreign visitors suffering injuries and robberies in the Lowveld this week!
Should be a suitable thread somewhere?

Re: What is the situation/progress with the proposed hotels?
"With regards to the proposed SANParks developments, there is indeed no EIA approval because the EIA has not happened yet. And the developments cannot go ahead until such approvals are obtained. When the full EIA happens stakeholders can participate in the process, as with any EIA. The Department has not indicated there is EIA approval for any developments. The Deputy Minister, did at one stage indicate support for the developments, but that in itself carries no legal backing.
Below a reply to a question by Gareth Morgan of 19.10. 2011 to the Minister which contains further information."

These documents are rather old, but represent the last official written comments from The Department regarding the hotels...long before the PDZ and the latest "Mission statement"...
Have requested more follow-up!
EIA company has not done anything for the past few months, pending written confirmation of the PDZ...but a meeting with interested parties should be held soon!

Why does the EIA take so long? Why have they stopped? Why is the public not informed? Has the rezoning something to do with this?

EIA confirmed to have received the green light today to recommence studies regarding the Malelane Hotel. There will be a meeeting for concerned parties within the next two weeks, and AW will be there! (Probably at SanParks headquarters in Pta)

It would be about time that they informed "Interested and Affected Parties" on what is happening

Ok!
Meeting of the focus group regarding the EIA of the proposed Malelane hotel confirmed for Friday 3 August at 14h00 in SanPARKS' offices at Groenkloof in Pretoria!
Africa Wild has specifically been invited as one of the two main IAAP's, which I think earns us a pat on the back!
I have asked certain Gauteng members if they can attend...others in the area please feel free to PM me if they are available and interested!
