From Ai-Ais we took a big drive round to Luderitz on the coast. There were yet more straight roads O:V

And some straight tracks!

Image

It would be fascinating to know when and where this was used X#X

Image

Along the road there were thousands of small birds - presumably feeding from seeds that were caught up in the tarmac. However they were really bad at flying away from oncoming traffic in time and due to the numbers there were a couple of casualties along the way --00--

Image

We also found desert horses O\/ O\/

Image

The landscapes were vast

Eventually we arrived at the coast X#X

In Luderitz we managed to organise a local guide to go hunt sand roses. It seemed a slightly strange concept, but buried in the sand on the beaches in the area there were deposits of gypsum looking like rose petals, and our guide basically told us where to dig. -O-

Eventually after some minimal effort, some sand roses were discovered ^Q^ ^Q^

The rest of the evening was a good kingklip meal and a decent sunset by the water O:V

Gypsum is a mineral, if I don't error, so maybe if you have a need for calcium......... O**

It must have been a relief to reach the coast after all the flat sandy landscape. It would have been for me ;-)

Don't talk about eating fresh fish at the sea, I get all Image

Great that you saw the horses \O

It's a really scenic drive down from Aus to the coast ^Q^

Was the Garub wild horse area already in place then with waterhole and signpost etc?
