Never seen so much water at Biyamiti...quite a sight, Pumbaa! :-0

And yes, no aircon there!

Amazing how quickly the birds can dry out too! \O

Tuesday, 11th February 2020 – Biyamiti

Explored roads: S139 – S25 – H4-2 – H5 – S108 – S25 – S139 – S139 – S25

Luckily we noticed after the alarm clock did its job that it did not rain much during the night and that also the strong wind was still blowing and dried at least everything a bit.

After all the rain the previous days we in fact did not expect to see that much but as long as we will face no road closures everything will be fine so we hit the road and came across a couple of younger kudu bulls

Image

followed by two giraffes out of which we originally thought we disturbed a honeymoon couple

Image

who had blocked the road

Image

Image

but after a more precise observation we discovered that it was two males, well they could have been on honeymoon anyway but it took more than half an hour until they cleared the road but nevertheless entertained us quite a lot.

Image

A bit further down the road we detected an African fish eagle

Image

and after it took last year nearly until our very last day to see saddle billed storks we had great luck today in finding a couple extreme close foraging at a natural pond which had been formed after the recent heavy rains.

Image

I simply love these storks

Image

and also their colour explosion with the green background was simply amazing

Image

and it was great that both he and she allowed some close ups

and did not fly away

Image

Image

and on top no other cars came along as well.

Image

After quite an extensive photo shooting we left that wonderful sighting and couple and were happy about all the shots we got.

Image

We spotted more giraffes

Image

and for sure a lot of impalas who also avoided the long green and wet grass and instead trotted along the sand road

Image

which meanwhile also was more than wet and muddy but finally we managed to squeeze us and our car between them.

Image

The rest of the S25 was then extreme quiet but in the end there are always many dead trees and on most of them a lot white backed vultures could be seen.

Image

Image

After a short break and a fuel stop at Crocodile Bridge camp where we chatted a bit with the petrol attendant about the weather and a couple of other things but at least we were informed from him about the recent weather forecast and he was happy to tell us that in two days everything will be back to normal according to him – sunshine and hot temperatures and no more rain – we headed forward and next stop was then at Gesanftombi which looked that way.

Image

For us it was a feast for the eyes to see the dam that full as it was indeed long time ago when we even noticed water in the dam.

to be continued…….
