Aat & Elly TR2020 - 04 - ELAND

Post by aat »

Please stay safe !!

Next story is about Eland and about 1 week before the lock-down in SA

*** Travel Tales ***
Trip to Kruger NP 2020 New series of Stories

04 – ELAND

Hi all,

Time and ready for another story ?

First of all, thanks for the nice comments about the Sable. I think I am going to like them more and more….

About this story… We stayed in Mopani for a long time, just because we liked it a lot.

One day we were driving from Mopani waterhole towards Tihongonyeni and along the S50 we were surprised to see Eland antelope. Not just one or two but a large group, I guess about 30 of them. Eland , Sable and Roan are my favorites so this was a great pleasure. And it was not in a weekend so it was very quiet and we got a beautiful private show.

First view we had …

As you can see this Eland was curious and surprised too. I was a bit afraid the Eland started to run and taking the whole group away from us. But no…

-

-

Just a few more being curious.

Beautiful to see them walking slowly and good for us to watch them.
Also a bit difficult because a number of Eland was ahead and some were behind these ones. We had stopped the engine and just waiting… and watching….

Funny to see that some Zebra were walking with the Eland but sometimes I hoped they walked away. Why ? The Zebra were closer to the road and took away some good opportunities for nice photo’s.

Because we also liked to see a big male and I thought I saw one ahead we moved on and stopped at another good spot.

And just few minutes later we could see the big boy

and

And to have a better view , here a more detailed photo

After a while some Wildebeast appeared and were walking with the Eland

A number of Eland was already almost out of sight and the last ones were also moving away.

Some last shots before the disappeared

Another great moment in our beloved Mopani area

Thanks for joining and hope you liked it

I think that the reason is my AVG safe browser, which is rather choosy ;-)

I'll have a look using another browser \O

^Q^ ^Q^ Cool to see a larger herd!

Only one has distinct white stripes. As far as I remember, the stripes (or lack of stripes) are attributed to different subspecies or populations -O- Or is that with coat colour only?
