Yup, the S100 Superpride!! Would love to see that! Last year we saw 10 cubs on the S100...they must belong to this pride!

Reply yesterday from Dr Ian Whyte: This is one for the vets. Looks to me like an injury, or more likely the effect of venom from a spitting cobra.

I'm currently working on IDing the lions in KTP and I am very confused at the moment
as I cannot for the live of me match certain lions that were seen in the same area.
Is it possible that territories overlap in certain habitats? Can't find anything on the internet.

Territories often overlap, Mel...that is why they roar and mark their scent etc.!

It's a constant battle, especially for the pride males. Younger males move all over the place...sometimes remarkable distances, trying to latch on to prides with aging Leaders, or simply trying to eat without getting killed by the Alpha males.

So once an Alpha male dies, territories may change a little. Sometimes smaller prides simply have a bad year or two, leaving a major vacuum that needs to be filled by males or young females, whichever comes first.

Also, prey may disappear seasonally, leading to another new dynamic!

Okay, thanks, RP. I always thought the scent marking and roaring was to keep the other males out.
Especially since I'm not talking about boundaries, but the centre of the action.

Still, it can't be any different than that looking at the different males that seem to inhabit Nossob for example.
