Our dune exploration continued to an area called Dead Vlei - a pan area where water used to collect and where camel thorn trees used to grow as a result.
The shifting of the dunes blocked any water access and so the trees died. They're supposedly 900 years old but haven't decayed due to the dry climate, making them very photogenic with the orange dune backdrops
By this stage it was really very hot out in the desert and we realised that we needed to head back to the car to replenish our empty water supplies. It was a lot further than we anticipated and we were absolutely parched by the time we got there. After consuming enough water to fill a camel we climbed some more dunes
And then made sure we were at the iconic dune 45 for sunset
