Monday 7 January, our last full day in the park
As usual we started our day by heading up to Kij Kij hoping to catch the early sightings before all the Twee Rivieren cars caught up with us.
Today we were rewarded with this stunning sighting of a Brown Hyena at the Kij Kij waterhole
We had really been lucky this trip with more brown hyena sightings than ever before
The hyena eventually moved off, which with the ablutions at Melkvlei calling we decided to do the same
While we were at the picnic site, we were alerted to a very flat lion, far up on the dunes above the picnic area. It was so far away that even looking at it with our binoculars was a challenge, so after doing the loop around Melkvlei we turned and set off for Twee Rivieren
As we trundled down south, we came upon this road block just before Leeudril
I wonder how many of the chicks would make it to maturity, hopefully most of them as they are quite big already.
We met up with the Danish family in Twee Rivieren who were asking where in the camp they could refill their gas bottle.
Only in Askam was the reply, and they were about to leave the park to head down to get the bottle filled.
Today, being our last day and knowing that I still had a full bottle back at camp, I offered to swop our full bottle for their empty one to save them the trip
After purchasing what we needed, we returned to Rooiputs to start packing up some of the stuff around the camp in preparation for tomorrow’s departure
That evening we took a drive up to Kij Kij and back.
All was quiet bar some of the usual suspects
Our last sunset of the trip did not disappoint.
