Tuskers of Kruger Discussions & Identification

Post by aat »

@ All,
If you look at the different tuskers you can see some real differences regarding the shape of the tusks:
May be a nice moment to show you some examples of these different shapes by showing pictures of tuskers from today and from the past.

1: Classically shaped, with pictures of two tuskers, Masthulele (currently biggest one in kruger) and a well known one from the past Hlanganini.

2: Both tusks mainly straight curved inwards, with pictures of Nkombo and past tusker Shilowa

Nkombo (one of the tuskers in the shingwedzi region)

Shilowa (died in 1998 and his range was mainly the Mopani region)

Hope you like subjects like this , if so I will show some other shapes later on

The tusks of Hlanganini and Masthulele look very much alike. It would be easy to make a mistake...........if one was not from the past ;-)

Ready for the next lesson \O

It also helps knowing where these guys hang out \O .
Hlanganini died near Mopani , and Masthulele is more seen further south , like Letaba area . And he is also a big guy . Impressive ;-)
