De Cuiper Waterhole

At the intersection of the H4-2 and H5. One of the first known Europeans to explore the area was a Dutch man, Francois de Cuiper, who led a Dutch East India Company expedition from the Cape Colony in 1725. However, the expedition was attacked by local people near Gomondwane, and driven away. The waterhole is close to the site of the attack and was named in memory of de Cuiper.

Duke's Waterhole

Waterhole along the S137 (south of the Park, off S28, between Crocodile Bridge and Lower Sabie). It has usually water all year round and offers good sightings.

It is named after Tom Duke, head ranger at Lower Sabie from 1903 to 1923.

Dzundzwini Loop and View Site

Shortly before the H13-1 joins the main Shingwedzi-Pafuri road (H1-8) there is a loop road that takes one to the Dzundzwini view site which, at 600m, is one of the highest points in the northern Park.
At the foot of Dzundzwini Hill, at a beautiful spot under a giant sausage tree, is the site where JJ Coetser first had his camp when he was appointed ranger of the area in 1919. In 1836, when the voortrekker Louis Trichardt passed by Dzundzwini, the area was densely settled under the control of the chief Matibee. He named the hill Matibeetuijn, Dutch for "Matibee's garden"

Dahamila Pan

One of the biggest of the many seasonal pans between the Limpopo and Luvhuvhu river floodplains at Pafuri. The pans often retain water well into the dry season and provide a lush haven for a variety of animals and birds. Unfortunately they are inaccessible to visitors other than those from the luxury private concessions in the area.

Dokweni Waterhole

Dokweni waterhole is a bit further from the road, on the H1-7, just north of the Babalala picnic spot. The name Dokweni means "wishing for something" in Shangaan.

Elephants often come by here for a drink, and herds of buffalo and cheetah have also been seen in the area.
