After a long drive, over roads ruined by potholes, we safely arrived at Memorial Gate.

We would be staying in this wonderful park for the next three days.

Then we saw stalking Lions just on the border of the Imfolosi section of the park, near the Nyalasi Gate….the pictures aren’t great but we made them with a teleconverter attached to the 500mm.

Bushveld Jock wrote:Great pics of the rhino and amazed by your lion shots. They were just too far for us to get a proper shot. Hope you had the same luck as us with no 17. Lots of buffalo only means one thing that lions are not to far away. ^Q^ ^Q^ ^Q^ \O
Four mites(Bushveld Jock, PRWIN, vinkie and Apex Predator) at the same sighting, but no one knew about it at the moment

Our last full day at Hluhluwe

We took the long route to Imfolozi and had some nice sightings.

After the gate we saw this Cape Vulture on a nest
Image

At the lookout point we saw these Zebras and enjoyed the view
Image

We continued our route to the Centenary Center and made a stop to read about the Parks history.

Just before we reached Mpila Camp we saw this Martial Eagle(not a very good picture)
Image

Image

Saw this Giraffe and these Wildebeest before we had a short Rusk with Coffee break at the Picnic spot i15, they toilets had some kind of drainage problem….it smelled awful near the carpark….
Image

Image

After we left the camp we decided to take some of the loops near the water and as we turned into one of the loops we were stopped by a boy who told us to get out of the car and “come and take a look at the sandbank in the water”.
Two Lions where having a good time together on the Sandbank….

We stood and looked at the scene and felt a bit embarrassed watching this special moment…the Lion couple seemed to have felt the same and left for more privacy behind the bushes…

While we were taking some photos of a couple of beautiful Rhinos we hear some commotion by some Imapla…running away and making sounds of fear.
Image

It seemed that there had been a cheetah chasing them…that is what a car told us who came rushing up the road in high speed.
We stayed and waited for the Cheetah to arrive but didn’t see it, we did see the Impalas keeping an eye on the road ahead of us.
After a few minutes we decided to continue our route to Lookout point i17.

At the next turn we saw the Cheetah crossing the road, turning its head around , probably looking at the Imaplas it had failed to catch.
Image

We stayed with the Cheetah and slowly followed it as it continued to walk further away….at last last stopped at the top of a hill, sat down at a tree and relaxed….after a while it disappeared over the hill….we tried to spot it again but it had left….

and returned to the camp for a good night sleep....we would have a long drive the next day returning to KNP O/\
