ZIMBABWE NATIONAL PARKS NEW REGULATIONS

Parks rules are amended to better protect our special species.

In a move designed to reduce criminal activities with respect to Zimbabwe’s flora and fauna the Parks and Wildlife Act has been amended. The first conviction of an individual with respect to unlawful hunting, killing, trading in, or possession of a specially protected animal will now result in imprisonment of not less than nine years. A second conviction now incurs a prison term of not less than eleven years.
Zimbabwe’s specially protected list consists of eight mammals, one reptile, 24 birds and 24 plants. Please see list below for specific species:

Specially Protected Animals are;
1. Aardwolf—Protelescristatus - 2. Bat-eared Fox—Otocyonmegalotis- 3. Cheetah—Acinonyxjubatus -4. Gemsbok—Oryx gazelle - 5. Lichtenstein’s Hartebeest—AlcelaphusLichtensteini
6. Pangolin—Manistemmincki -7. Rhinoceros—(a) Black—Dicerosbicornis, (b) Square-lipped—Ceratotheriumsimum - 8. Roan—Hippotragus equines

Our specially protected reptile is the Python, Python sebae
