God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.

Re: Dimwits Bateleur 2017 - The Shining
It was getting a bit late again...
Anyway, so off we went southwards at a lick!
It was a case of feeling a bit sleepy after eating and drinking all day, you know how it goes...it is BAD when the driver and co-driver fall asleep while traveling:
We woke them up, dragged the car out of a ditch, and continued...
It was at around this point, as the heat finally broke, that the Dimwits lost their mind. This is the song that was played endlessly, and beautifully sung along to. It was our final evening, and I shall never forget this stretch.
Dw: "Thunder!"
Frew: "Thu-thu-thunder!"
Bl: "Lightning and a..."
RP: "THUNDEEEER!"
As we approached Shing in the twilight, it was apparent that a big fire was approaching from Moz, which happens quite often, but not this close....
A final bit of sun, but more smoke than clouds!:
As darkness fell, the whole horizon north of camp was aglow at various stages. I don't scare easily, but I admit I was afraid. It is terrifying especially when you have been in a veldfire before!
The youngsters went off to view the blaze from the restaurant, and FORTUNATELY it didn't jump the river! Someone was doing astounding work, and I am hugely impressed by the firebreak system around the camps! Well done, SANParks and working on Fire!
It seemed to be over, and we started our own fire...a suitably small one...
RP: "So! Who's coming to swim with me TONIGHT? "
Deafening silence...
Then the bushfire started again, exactly as before. I went out and did a thorough visit of the fire hydrant boxes well-situated throughout the camp, no jokes!
But it passed again!
This steak was also delicious: Espitada a'la Borderline!
Obviously we couldn't finish it...I brought most of it home and the Dimwits ate it here at rugby late December!
It was another smashing evening, and Borderline wanted to meet Robert for some reason...polite, I suppose? We crashed into their camp and it was actually very nice! One sits at the fence in the moonlight and watches elephants. Robert rather archly invited me to come and look at his bedroom....a bare tent with a bed and Persian rug in it!
I was quite impressed, nonetheless, more at how he managed to fit all the crap into his little car!
Leachy was asleep, but I determined that I would wake him to "say goodbye". For some reason I asked Rob's advice on this matter. He is the least intrusive man one could ever meet, and doesn't say much, but quietly said: "Some things can't be undone."
I heeded this advice, thank heavens!
