Browns in Kruger - August 2015 (JHB Clan)

Post by Supernova »

Hi All;

Written by: Teagan and Supernova.

I seem to be in the habit of posting my TR’s a year later, so I will continue the established routine.

Here is our August 2015 Kruger trip report.

For this trip Roxy and Kelly are joining us for a few days in the beginning of the holiday. We had booked Keartland Guest house for 3 days, so had plenty of room available for everyone. As it was Kelly’s first time in Kruger, we were hoping for good sightings.

The plan for the holiday was:

Day 1: Elephant Walk Retreat in Komatipoort
Days 2 to 4: Lower Sabie
Days 5, 6 and 7: Skukuza

22th August 2015 - Day 1: Johannesburg to Elephant Walk

The drive was straight along the N4 to Komatipoort, then to Elephant Walk Retreat, which is alongside the Crocodile bridge entrance gate. Elephant Walk had been a last minute decision and booking because as the Kruger trip gets closer I get more impatient and have to leave earlier. For those that have not been there, I have included a few pictures of where we stayed from their Website. We could only get a 5 sleeper, so we booked a room at a guest house in Komatipoort for Roxy and Kelly.

Once all were booked in we all settled down on the deck, which has a direct view of Kruger from the outside looking in.

There was constant movement on the river bank and it kept us busy all afternoon.

Teagan spotted an Elephant in the distance.

It didn’t take long for the Vervets to find us and try steal whatever they could get their hands on

Kelly and I went for a walk along the fence and found an Elephant on our side of the river bank. Roxy and Kelly posed for a photo with the Ellie in the background.

There were also lots of birds to view

Hey boet 0/* X#X

I wondered if you were going to have time to do this TT before your next trip.

It’s always cool to have someone along who has never been to KNP, so I’m keen to hear if Kelly enjoyed it.

Great start, but keep it coming so I can check some of it out before leaving \O

23rd August 2015 - Day 2: Elephant Walk to Lower Sabie

As we were at the Croc Bridge gate, so there was no need to hurry, we slept in and have a late breakfast. The drive to Lower Sabie would take about an hour and so we agreed to leave in time to drive to Nkuhlu and then back to Lower Sabie by 14h00 to book in.

The usual game concentration was in the first few kilometres from Croc Bridge.

We have seen plenty of Nyala in Kruger, but none this far down towards Croc Bridge

These two young bulls provided entertainment for about 15 minutes as they tested each other

Sunset Dam was full of the usual suspects.

We all took a break at Nkuhlu before heading back to Lower Sabie for book in time.
