GREAT report and sightings BT ...Especially this interesting bird the uncommon Retz's Helmet Shrike which plays host to an even much rarer bird the Thick Billed Cuckoo...Next time you find the Retz in summer months keep a watch for the Cuckoo..I have seen less than 5 Thick Billed Cuckoos in my life and 2 have been in close proximity to a flock of Retz ..actually you can look for the cuckoo all year as many Thick Billed overwinter and in fact all mine were seen in July months over the years (Nottens in Sabi Sands, Pafuri Fever Tree forest etc) All the other cuckoos apart from the odd 'lost' Klaas are gone in July[/quote]
Thanks! I'll keep an eye out the next time I see Retz's!

Day 12 Friday 21 November : Crocodile Bridge.
Back on the road again next morning, not much to be seen on the way to Lower Sabie except a pair of Steenboks.
Sunset dam provided some entertainment.
Common Sandpiper.
Wood Sandpiper.
Blackwinged stilt.
Yellowbilled Stork.
And Yelloweyed Canary.

Creepy crawlies are amazing, Wasps and Scorpions used to give me the creeps until I started to photograph them!Bushcraft wrote:Reading but no shoesFlutterby wrote:I hope BC is reading here and starts wearing shoes in the park!

Day 12 Friday 21 November : Crocodile Bridge.
After a M&B breakfast we headed back to Croc. Just by the H10 turnoff, some of RP's rellies.
And there was RP himself with our last culinary delight of the trip! It was the most repulsive of all of them; so disgusting that Stargazer couldn't bear to look at it and as I took these pictures I felt the bile starting to rise!
We moved on quickly to get away from the vile creature and his grizzly feast.
On the S137 - there's a nimal in this picture somewhere.
On the S130, some mismatched Giraffes sparring.
