As usual very interesting insects I love the giraffe portraits, the monitor with a catch etc.

Thanks Toko!Toko wrote:Excellent portrait of the monitor
The Sprites are also great and the red ones are not even an ID problem - just great
The black spider has very spiny legs

poor fish, it's supposed to be catch and throw back fishing, this fisherman "dropped" his catch near the Monitor who was obviously an opportunist.Richprins wrote:Not a very lucky day for that tilapia!
I like jumping spiders...they are not as grotesque, and are good with pest control!
I wonder if someone doesn't just make up the dragonfly names as they go along...
Ja...profiteering indeed at the restaurants...it is going to backfire on them one day...
Ah, so you do like SOME bugs, sounds like favouritism! You are in for a real treat in my next TT - I have some really nice ones for you!
It has red veins in the wings and the wings are dropped, hence Red-Veined Dropwing.
I thought the profiteering had been dealt with by bringing in Famous Brands - obviously not.

There are and that one is not the biggest I've seen there. In 2010 we found a monster which I estimate was well over 2 metres long!Bushcraft wrote:There are some rather large water monitors hanging out at Ngwenya

Back in the Park for the afternoon drive.
First up, a rarely seen Dickinson's Kestrel. Correction A Dark Chanting Goshawk.
A lone Buff on the S28.
Another Jumping Spider, this time inside the car on the SO's leg.
Then another great sighting, two Cheetahs on a Kudu kill.
Fifteen minutes to gate closing, just past the Virhami bridge there was another traffic jam. This time it was caused by Mr. Jumbo.
He kept us waiting for around 30 minutes and by the time he moved off the road there were well over 70 cars in the queue and we were over 15 minutes late!
