Our Trip to Olifants 26th-28th May 2013

Post by LBUS »

Hi Everyone,

We took a little trip up to Oliphant's at the end of May. The Spotted Genet will however regale you with a more entertaining and detailed account of the weekend away a littler later on. I thought I would load up a couple of photographs in the meantime as a little bit of a "Prelude" so to say.
We upgraded our little Nikon Coolpix, (3 x Optical zoom,3 mg & 9 years old), before the trip to a Canon SX500 which for us was quite a leap forward!! O\/
Maybe next year we'll enter the realm of the full SLR cameras :-) The Water Monitor has now been given the Nikon to practice with, which resulted in what must have been thousands of pictures!

Anyway, here are a few pictures that were taken on the trip with our new toy........

Image

A Southern Crowned Crane, which we haven't seen in the Kruger before. Sorry that its so small but as usual.......still not enough zoom!! O/

Image

A Brown Snake Eagle, and no he wouldn't look at me....

Image

A Grassveld Pipit, I stand under correction here.....still trying to learn these little fellows.

Image

A Bateleur, what a beautiful bird.

Image

Lilacbreasted Roller, love the colours on these birds.

Image

Another one, I was moaned at eventually for taking so many pictures of the rollers.

Image

Now, I'm having trouble identifying this bird. He's got quite a lot of yellow on his face. We think he's a Steppe or Tawny, but can't be 100% sure who it actually is.... -O-
If anyone knows please leave a comment.

Hey LBUS, thanks for starting a TT! \O

Great pics so far, looking forward to more. \O

Awesome to see a Crwoned Crane in Kruger, I have never seen one here. Your last bird is a juvenile Bateleur. ;-)

I wonder how many have seen that bird in Kruger O:V
and no he wouldn't look at me....
If he had looked at you, we would not have had such a good angle for the gorgeous bill \O

Hey! That crane is unheard of in Kruger...virtually! Far more rare than the Egyptian vulture seen lately etc!

Probably an escaped private bird, certainly not normal at all!!!!!!!

What next....? Tigers, camels!?

Will pass it on, thanks LBUS!!
