Re: Pretoriuskop Rest Camp
I have heard plenty of people complain about Pretoriuskop and to be honest I cant understand why. Yes, the grass is long, but with patience the gameviewing is out of this world (that includes birding). Not a plethora of roads around, but seek and you shall find.
Voortrekker road is not been very good for me personally, but I have heard of many a visitor that has had amazing sightings on that road.
Fayi Loop and Shabeni loop is two of the best short drives in the park. Shabeni loop gave me my 1st ever Sable sighting. My 1 and only Lichtensteins Hartebees was spotted on the Fayi loop some 5 years ago.
The swimming pool is a nice spot at night for young romantics
This is a very nice 1st or last camp, due to its proximity to Numbi gate. This also the area I spend most of my daytrips in.

Lovely views around Pretoriuskop:
This from the loop on the actual Pretoriuskop kop outside camp:
And in camp:
The swimming pool area:
Game viewing can be difficult in the area due to dense vegetation and tall grass growth. However it is a little-known fact that the Park's highest diversity of mammal species is to be found here, including rare antelope such as Liechtenstein's Hartebeest and tsessebe.
This is the oldest big camp in Kruger, and also has the most diverse accommodation options, quite a bewildering range of bungalows from over the decades! (Currently 17 different options.)
What to look out for:
Granite outcrops.
Silver Terminalia trees
Kudu and grey duiker.

Re: Pretoriuskop Rest Camp
Pretoriuskop was the first camp we ever had the privilege to visit, we love everything about the camp, we always include a trip to Pretoriuskop when planning our annual 14 day Kruger pilgrimage, this year we are not including Pkop in our plans as we want to really discover the north.
Re: Pretoriuskop Rest Camp
I think Pretoriuskop always gets ignored seeing that it is one of the oldest camps. We always try and stop over entering or exiting the park and have found it to be one of the cleanest camps in the park. Linen might be tired but always clean and floors are spotless. Spotted lion, elephant, buffaloes, wild dog in the area. One morning we had a huge lion right on top of the one rock formation(klip koppie). The lion king personified!
