Look , its all a case of SACYA ( Shut up and cover your ass ) .

Too many " employees " doing nothing and knowing that nothing will happen .

Just look at Sanparks annual report and look at expenditure , where they even admit that more than 50 % of their costs are in respect of staff .
Now , look at the latest report concerning staff and costs :
1 ) A lot of staff are not educationally qualified for their jobs -- actually about 680 members out of total compliment of 4258 staff members as shown below here .

9.2% of Employees Meeting Minimum Educational Requirements (C and Upper) 75%
Performance Analysis Out of the 909 persons employed on the Paterson C1-F Band Category, 663 (74%) do meet the minimum educational requirements for the job they occupy.

2 ) They have better than expected cost to income ratio due to more visitor , as per ---

The income to cost ratio is better than expected due to more revenue generated from conservation and concession fees than anticipated. This is evidenced by an increase in visitor numbers. For the period under review, total Guests to Parks increased by 5.1% from 6,664,996 to 7,004,213 persons through SANParks gates. For Kruger the number is up 6.3% from 1,817,724 to 1,932,750 and for Parks increased by 4.6% from 4,847,272 to 5,071,463 persons.

3 ) They pay HUGE salaries -- of the best in South Africa ( and you thought a game ranger is not well paid ) . See here -

F - Top Management R12,697,611.11 8
E - Senior Management R64,575,336.99 59
D - Middle Management R209,229,170.88 315
C - Junior Management R169,758,779.91 593
B - Semi Skilled R332,332,673.78 1,855
A - Unskilled R209,090,901.63 1,428

They actually employ 4258 people , but their actual target is only 2606 .
Of this , their target for top management is 4 , but they employ 8 .
Same with senior , middle and junior management where they have a target of 533 whereas actual employment at those levels are 967 .

Enough is enough

The staff who clean the accommodations generally do not care and as the head of the cleaning staff does not control, there will always be more things missing/unacceptable........and the prices increase every year  That's the reason that I stay outside the park and pay a cottage with two bedrooms en suite, kitchen, sitting room, wifi etc. the same as a one-room "thing" in Kruger, where you have to go outside in order to turn around.

I suppose it is like all the other state owned enterprises (Eskom, SAA) etc. To provide jobs using tax money and thereby garner votes for the ruling party. Accountability is the problem, as said. One should not even need complaint forms if simple managerial duties are performed and scheduled. As I see it, if no punishment comes from not working, no work will be done? -O-

I don't think massive qualifications are needed for day to day maintenance.

That is why civil society groups like us are so important, IMO. ;-)

Most of those people live in a very different way from us and are probably rather ignorant too. I still remember the electric water boiler which could only be placed in the sink, if you wanted to use it 0*\ or the fridge that could only open for about 15 cm. 0*\ The bin without a lid 0*\ four glasses all different 0*\ etc.

At Sirheni we noticed that the camp manager came to inspect unit no 2 after cleaning was done. She even walked with a pen and paper and marked off as she was walking through

But I suppose that is how it should work at every camp

Next trip to the bush??

Let me think......................
