Tbh, when I took the photo, I did not notice an odour.
But what was the nasty smell Bushcraft reported following some heavy rains???

Satara: In the middle of the grass patch in front of the restaurant there is a tap. Probably for hosepipes/sprinklers. It was leaking heavily
Skukuza: Unit 54. Tap in kitchenette was leaking.
B n D: There was an issue but can't remember. Will have to ask my son this evening if he remember what it was

That is the smell of the river itself, I think. The sewage treatment plants along the Sabie are largely dysfunctional due to Municipal maladministration and theft. Also most informal settlements have "bush toilets". Very bad, so all sorts of goodies flow into the river after rains.

Yes RP, the smell could have come from the main river, but it really stank, hence my comment that government needs to sort something out upstream otherwise there's going to be long term damage.
