Heavy Vehicles using Kruger as Shortcut
Re: Heavy vehicles using KNP as short cut due to protests
How do we know if these trucks were / are going to be thoroughly searched for contraband that is going to find its path to Mozambique very smooth?????? How easy would it be to have a rhino horn or three under all these poles? If a delivery truck carrying supplies into the Timbavati could get away with it for years with an extremely viable trade in bush meat leaving the Reserve then how do we know what is going to happen with trucks?

Official response from Sanparks today:
In regards to the daily conservation fees on cargo carriers found on SANParks’ website, SANParks does not allow cargo carriers into the park except those that provide SANParks or other KNP residents. Special entry permits are arranged for these cargo carriers when entering the park. The reason that on the tariff sheets cargo carriers are still highlighted is historical, when they used to be allowed. This information will be removed from the website to avoid further confusion to the public.

another official, official response, the cargo carrier is no longer a bus, but history. Some peoples swimming pools are other peoples fire pools.

You must be joking! In fact it is not a joke.
In the first place, how do you not notice this "historical relic" on your fee sheet when you update prices every year?
Secondly, I have enquired from a senior ex-Kruger official, who categorically states there was never an arrangement for cargo carrier thoroughfare, except for the Selati railway!
In fact, proper research was done before even tourist buses were allowed, indicating that heavy vehicles have up to 5000 times the effect of a car on a road, hence buses and Kruger trucks being confined to main routes only.
Pathetic, and a bumbled attempt at "the old regime" being blamed for this!
