There were less people in the park and maybe also more prepared for emergency situations.

I never heard of anybody suffering before Cell phones ..Ja maybe with punctures where I have helped when passing ..But on Krugers Roads with all that traffic ..Help is readily at hand ..and the camps huge and busy ..your neighbour can just rush to the office /camp manager on duty after hours etc making these devices irrelevant and OSs disarmed of their radios too just like Taxi Hooters should be neutered in towns and cities

KNP staff rack up speeding fines over festive season

Updated Jan. 29, 2020, 3:43 p.m. | By Lulutho Mkosi

South African National Parks (SANParks) has revealed that more than half of the speeding fines in the Kruger National Park over the festive season were issued to its own staff members.

The fines were issued between December 15 to January 5.

The speed limit at the park remains at 50 km/h on tarred roads and 40 km/h on gravel roads.

SANParks spokesperson Ike Phaahla says the park has adapted a zero-tolerance attitude to speeding.

“We had quite a high number of speeding fines that were issued to tourists who were visiting and half of those were again staff members.”

Disciplinary action will be taken for implicated staff members.

“Our staff members who were also given those fines, they are also going to face disciplinary action,” Phaahla says.

In fact, the staff members are those who speed the most and NOT because of "latest sightings" O**

Today I saw the effect of latest sightings on the visitors. I was leaving a lion sighting on a small dirt road where nobody would ever go, (I was there because someone had told me that there were lions) and I saw at least 6 cars one after the other turning securely onto the dirt road :O^

I'm astonished that SanParks would admit such a fact, to be honest. But well done to them!
Especially since it weakens their arguments for cutting the cell phone reception O**
