Re: Kruger National Park Visitor Numbers
Still don't know if the gate quotas mean visitors or cars!
Please check Needs Attention pre-booking: https://africawild-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=322&t=596
Re: Kruger National Park Visitor Numbers
It's definitely meant to mean visitors, not carsRichprins wrote:Still don't know if the gate quotas mean visitors or cars!
It’s about what the facilities/shops/toilets etc can handle

Headline: KNP had a good festive season
SKUKUZA –With an almost 80% overall room occupancy, the Kruger National Park (KNP) is quite happy with what they achieved, although visitors through the gates were down by just over 3000 people. According to Joep Stevens, General Manager of Strategic Tourism Services of the South African National Parks (SANParks), the “past festive season in the Kruger National Park was quite typical of the usual year end trends. The first two weeks of December were typically quiet, but visitor numbers picked up drastically from 16 December until the first week in January.”
The total visitors through gates were 181,235, which was 1,6% down on the previous year record figure of 184,256.
For the month of December 2015 the overall room occupancy in KNP was 79,9% while camping sites enjoyed occupancy of 68,4%.
Foreign guests comprised 19,9 % of total visitors, also down from the annual average of 23,7% /5 of the 2014 festive season.
KNP implemented a revised booking system for day visitors, which comprised 80% of the total visitor statistic. The new booking system included time slots in order to facilitate better flow and less congestions at gates.
According to the General Manager of Communications and Marketing in KNP, William Mabasa, over 8000 visitors entered the park on Christmas Day.Mabasa added: “The flow of visitor traffic was well managed, although we did receive quite a few calls about what we call the KNP Idiots, which is people getting out of their cars or even sitting in windows and litter. We are taking steps to stem this kind of problems by fining these visitors with quite a hefty fine.”
Bookings for Christmas Lunch was already at capacity by December 20th and good reports were received from overseas visitors as well as local people.
Mabasa said Christmas Day was a bit overcast and not as hot as it was anticipated to be earlier. He, on behalf of the KNP Management, wanted to thank visitors for their good behaviour and a mostly problem free Christmas Day.

Re: Kruger National Park Visitor Numbers
Made use of pre-booking on one day (new years) as we wanted to ensure entry when staying at Marloth Park .We got to the gate at 5:30 and were directed directly to the entrance by honarary rangers effectively jumping the queue . Have to admit though there was not many people in the other queue +/- 10 cars that early on news years
