The interesting thing is that this road was a dirt road for most of its life...only became tarred in the 1990's, as an alternative to the busy Numbi-Skukuza road.
Phabeni gate then followed later...it was a bit strange going up north from Numbi and encountering this grand new road leading right!
Good planning, though!

On our way out from Kruger in May 2011, we saw this
There were a few cars that you cannot see in the photo. We parked off about 50 meters from the lioness and she walked towards us. She was collared and on her own

On entering the park through Phabeno on 31 march 2010 we found these Pride of the Cape in bloom
