Amazing what a little bit of rain does!

At one of the river beds on the way to Ngotso were two reedbuck busy having a nice time eating the grass.
It's always nice to see them.



And then we got rewarded with a sighting I have never seen before in 8 years of visiting kruger!!
My first ever leopard in tree!!













Then it got down after 10 minutes and we watched it walk towards the road.



It suddenly disappeared into thin air!!

We waited and waited and I suddenly looked on the other side of the road and there it was!
It must have crossed under the road.
Leopards these days.



We then followed him for another 20 minutes and watched him go up another tree.
This time a bit further.





He then settled in so we left.

I decided to head north on the H1-4/5 up to the Nwamanzi lookout and back to camp with our usual stop at the high-level bridge.

Before we got to the lookout, a ray of hope!


Having nothing better to do, we sat and waited............

A conversation in the car behind us had us trying not to laugh out loud; A rather strident lady was speculating.... it went something like this...

"How on earth did it get up there, I didn't know Impalas could climb trees and it doesn't have any back legs either".

After a while, I noticed a Dragonfly was perched on a nearby branch.



And then we waited some more...........

After 20 minutes.....













Nothing.

Our patience was rewarded and the princess appeared.



She ripped off a chunk of meat and departed.



But she was back 5 minutes later.





I think she was getting frustrated with the position of the carcass and she tried to pull it down. She got a good grip and started to tug.


She was tugging so hard that her back feet came off the tree.


And then she lost her grip and fell.

We waited a while longer but she didn't reappear so we went back to the bridge for a golden sunset.

"The lions chased hyenas all over and one lioness attacked baby hyena and got separated and surrounded by 10 hyenas, the rest of the pride crossed back over the road towards her."

Thursday 18th Sept. 2014

Our friends had never been to Olifants or Letaba, so we decided to take a ride up there to see the elephant museum.


First up a ground hornbill looking for some breakfast.


Then a young impala



The olifants river looks so bare with all the vegetation gone. I really do miss those beautiful big sycamore trees from
the banks of the river.



It didn't look as if there was too much food for this monkey.



A green woodhoopoe scratching in the bark of a tree.

On the way back to Satara a zebra was standing very close to the road.



Then another highlight for us. A honey badger in the open. He was in full view where the grass had burnt.



He was on the move looking for food



Ah whats here, lets have a dig around



Then the digging got serious. He rests his head on the rim of the hole so that both his front feet are free to dig.



Success and what ever it was, was very quickly dispatched. Then off he went.Great sighting and a first for us in KNP
