Suppose they prefer leaves and not grass.

My brother just sent me a pic he took on Monday from the bridge and it was there. I didn't even notice it. :-(

Very sad indeed :-( Maybe there was already something wrong. You do not die from hunger if your natural food is not far away. In case he would have drowned.

A collapsed calf nearby?
A 4M+ giraffe should be able to wade across the river -O-

Going through my photos, I see I did take a pic of the giraffe but didn't realise anything was wrong! :-(

UPDATE:

SANParks regrets that against every hope, the stranded giraffe on the Olifants River Bridge was discovered dead this morning. As per our founding principles to let nature take its course, the carcass will be left in the same position to continue the natural process. We appeal to the tourists who are going to view the sight to be mindful of the park rules and not to congest the bridge so as not to inconvenience other road users.
