Todays sighting shgows you an animal after dinner. When I saw this Python near Lower Sabie at the entrance to the S 82 I knew she must have had a decent meal. Then the driver of an other car told me that the reptile had just caught and swallowed an Impala baby!! The interesting thing was that two Spurfowls had some kind of interest in hte snake and always walked around very close to her

Man kills massive African Rock Python with spear near Ladysmith
The snake had eaten a rooster at Bongani’s neighbours’ home
1 day ago
Resident Bongani Mvelase recently killed a massive African Rock Python with a spear in the Esidakeni area, which lies near Ezakheni.
Bongani spotted the snake after it had eaten a rooster at his neighbours’ home.
He took a spear and stabbed the snake, believing it to be a threat to children and livestock in the area.
Local snake expert Fanie Cilliers was contacted for comment on the matter.
Fanie said that due to the municipality failing to fund him in capturing massive snakes like this one, he no longer goes out to remove African Rock Pythons. He added that, in this case, it was unfortunate that the snake was killed by a member of the community.
Numerous calls have come in regarding African Rock Pythons spotted in Esidakeni.

Re: African Rock Python
Sad that it was killed, but if they get no help I suppose they will take matters into their own hands.

Re: African Rock Python
You cannot expect knowledge if it is not taught and a snake like that can easily induce fear.....difficult that it does not

Workers startled a python that had caught a bushbuck earlier. Photo: Leopard Creek Country Club.
MALALANE – Workers at Leopard Creek Country Club had their early morning duties disrupted yesterday when they spotted a huge python wrapped around a bushbuck.
According to the club director, Johan Piek, they suspect the snake had lain in wait for the bushbuck in the bushes surrounding the golf course. Drag marks indicted that a struggle had taken place, which landed the reptile and antelope on the shorter grass.
The snake was startled by the arrival of the humans and slowly unwound itself before heading back into the bushes.
The snake reluctantly unwrapped itself from the antelope and headed back into the “safety” of the bushes.
Former English cricketer Kevin Pietersen tweeted a video clip of the incident, which received 2 658 likes and 396. Watch it below:
