The night before we saw the Lions, we took a late drive down to Rooikop and although quiet wildlife wise, I did manage a cople of pics of the sunset.

The following morning, just before we reached the Lions, the sun was rising.

Haven't seen any lions there directly at the waterhole, but kudu always do it for me in KTP as well. :-)

During our visit to Kgalagadi in December 2011 we had a 2nd encounter with lions at Rooikop. As usual we had a quick stop at Rooikop just to see if we will be lucky again. You will often find lion spoor in the road, but it is not always a case of finding them there. We left Rooikop towards Maries and SO picked up lion spoor in the road that looked very fresh. We scanned the direction it was heading towards and guess what the lions were walking along the road in the tall grass and we nearly missed them.

I'd rate this my bestest sighting at Rooikop so far - the black-headed heron that caught a scaly-feathered finch.

Some wildebeest who wouldn't let a jackal get anywhere near the waterhole
and kept him chasing away.

Last day of the month - time to get the last batch in. -O

On our last trip we watched

and a skittish hartebeest

at Rooikop waterhole, while the rest of Nossob camp were fighting for the best spots
to see some lazy lions on the opposites side a few metres down the road.

The Cheetahs of Rooiputs area KTP

Post by Peter Betts »

There were 4 groups of Cheetah around when we spent nearly 3 weeks at Rooiputs in April 2018. Which is surprising considering due to the high lion density in that part of the Nossob River Valley

This was the Male Coalition that we only saw regularly in the evening as we returned to camp and the Twee Rivieren mob had departed from our bit of paradise so we generally had this pair to ourselves
