You know , just reading the thread about the " crown prince " of rangers being arrested for poaching , makes me think that all Sanparks have to do to stop poaching , is to fire all the current rangers and appoint new ones O**

RE: REQUEST FOR CLARIFICATION AROUND AND RESULTS OF INTERNET SURVEY REGARDING SANPARKS RHINO POACHING LEVY PROPOSAL

SANParks Tourism Research

Dear Africa Wild Committee,

Please note this mailbox is not attended to every day and that in future I would advise you to contact our Communications department directly.

SANParks will release the results of the survey once the board and executive management have made a decision.
You can contact our Media specialist, Ike Phaahla (CC’ed above) in this regard.

Kind regards,

Liandi Slabbert

To Whom it may concern,

I have not received any correspondence from your group on the above stated subject, however I have noted your reply to a colleague on the matter and that I have not responded which is untrue. Kindly send the original enquiry so that we can deal with the matter.

As explained, the SANParks Tourism Research Unit embarked on this initiative to gauge the response of overnight visitors and Wild Card members to the suggestion for an anti-poaching levy . The survey has received 5000 responses thus far and the results will be collated and inform whatever decision the SANParks Board and Executive team deem necessary.

The true fact is that there is a lot of pressure to plunder our natural resources including elephant and rhino , two of the big five animals that drive tourism and are important to the ecosystem, by criminal elements. The costs of the anti-poaching have increased by 334% since 2008 to SANParks, which is not sustainable , hence the suggestion by the Unit.

SANParks will communicate the results of the survey in due time and share whatever decision has been taken by the Board and EXCO.

Now kindly let us know what your concerns are as this is an ongoing process and no decision has been taken yet.

Kind Regards

Ike Phaahla

Media Specialist

Dear Mr Phaahla.

RHINO LEVY SURVEY

It is abundantly clear that you received our initial query within the thread of the email from Ms Slabbert on 27 September 2017. In fact you have reiterated her initial reply to us. As the deadline has passed for distribution of information gleaned, in the public interest, we are forced to follow alternative means to gain said information.

Unfortunately, the tone and content of your response is not conducive to a spirit of public interaction and seems disingenuous, to say the least, which is disappointing.

Regards

The Africa Wild Committee
