SANParks: New special rates for tour operators at Tsitsikamma

2018-02-09 07:30 - Gabi Zietsman

SANParks announced that tour operators with international tourists now only need to pay 50% of the Tsitsikamma park fee, the same rate that applies to SADC visitors.

However, this rate only applies to those visiting the park for no more than four hours, which may result in a rise in half-day tours to this section of the Garden Route National Park.

All other rates remain the same as per the November increase announced last year.

"We wish to thank all visitors to National Parks. All funds generated from conservation fees are ploughed back into the primary mandate of SANParks which is to oversee the conservation of South Africa’s biodiversity, landscapes, seascapes and associated heritage assets through a system of national parks," says SANParks in a statement.

The conservation authority advises all tour operators and visitors to pre-book their park activities and over-night stays in advance.

At the moment a section of Tsitsikamma is under construction which began in 2016 as part of a R19+ million project to upgrade infrastructure in the Storms River Rest Camp. It includes the development around the Big Tree as well as upgrading the gate and roads that will see a new lane to ease congestion.

SANParks expects construction to be completed by April this year, after it was delayed when SANParks had to find a new contractor when the first one was unable to complete the project.
