Re: Its a WILD life....
So some pre-friday storeis:
Once in the south of the park in January, early morning 3:30am or so, I decided it was a good time to get out of bed, make a cuppa and get myself a ciggie ... So big brave Mr Me was sitting quietly on the stoep, having my smoke and coffee, when suddenly, I heard a deep grunt ... Now, when it is so dark, and we were right next to the fence, and you know predators are on the prowl, and you hear a grunt not meters away from you, you right royally poop in your pants. The smoke went one way, the coffee another and I went flying back into the chalet!!! My SO couldn't stop laughing until we went on the drive about an hour later.... She heard the whole story....
On a separate trip, we were in unit 12 in Orpen... Again early morning we were sitting having a coffee, enjoying the peace of the bush, when out of the blue, we hear a bone chilling roar!!! This was so close that that the windows were rattling... I am not a believer of a bright big torch in the bush, so we shone the little braai torch to the fence and here was this monster male lion strolling past... Needless to say, we ran into the chalet (because we thought he was camp side of the fence), and didn't get out the unit until 4:30am, where we ran to the car and drove off for the morning drive... At the gate, the beast was not 50meters away, strolling up towards Satara side....
