Does anyone know what insect this is? We watched it stalk and catch a rain spider, kill it and then drag it to a hole in the wall. Sorry for the quality of the pics, but I took them with my cell phone.

Great shots Fluts. \O

I know there are species of wasps that paralyses larger insects such as spiders etc. then seal them in a hole after laying an egg on them. When the egg hatches, the larvae have a ready supplied living meal to feed on. I think this may be one of those wasps, but don't know the name.

Tx Dewi, we thought it might be a type of wasp. After the spider was dead, the 'wasp' kept going back to the hole as if to to check on something.

Hi Fluts,

Great pics.

Think they are....

1. Spotted Joker?
2. Eyed Pansy.
3. Yellow Pansy.

(but feel free to correct the above if anyone knows I've made a mistake).

Nope, as you can see, I'm not sure about the first one Fluts. =O:

I just like to know what I'm looking at and see if I can find out when someone is unsure.

I get some horribly wrong sometimes, but still enjoy looking them up. Just wish I had more reference material on SA insects as I'm stuck to looking for images on the internet with these.

I normally see a pic and think Wow, what's that? Then rush off to see if I can find out what it is for myself.
