LIGHTROOM 4 - FROZEN

Post by steamtrainfan »

Please can anyone advise me on what to do.

I downloaded all my Pilanesberg photos onto Lightroom 4 and was busy editing them when there was a message saying that I had very little space left on my C drive and that I should delete some folders in order to create space. I then went into My Pictures and deleted a whole bundle of photos. When I went back into Lightroom I got the following messages at the top of the photo.

When I am in DEVELOP function:

The folder could not be found.

When I am in LIBRARY function:

The file named "DSC_0155.NEF" is off line or missing.

All the functionality keys are now low lighted and I cannot export anymore photos.

I have tried re-booting my laptop but the messages still appear and I cannot do a thing on Lightroom.

Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi PRWIN.

Thanks very much for your response.

My C drive has 34GB of 112GB free.

Maybe I should try and download the photos from the camera again?

34GB is a lot

Try and download those photo, again.

If it does not work open light room and go to library

In library on the left you will see
1- Navigator
2 - Catalog
3 - Folders

This is where we want to be, right click on the folder you don't want. There will be a menu ,in there you will see a command remove. Click on that.
This will remove the folder from the catalog only as it will state, click remove..

By doing this on each folder, you will remove all the folders that you deleted out of the catalog and you should stop getting the missing file message

Thanks very much PRWIN.

I did try to download the photos again but I got a message that I am downloading duplicate images.

I will try what you say BUT my big problem is that I never created any folders for any of my photos. I merely downloaded them to Lightroom and that was it so I now have over 2000 photos on Lightroom and every one shows me the messages about missing or off line.

I have all the photos on My Pictures so I should be pretty safe in deleting all the photos on Lightroom.

Lets rather be safe than sorry, Open windows explore and make a new dummy folder, then copy the entire My picture folder into it as a back up.

Go to light room and remove the entire my picture folder in light room as I stated above, close the program and then let it re - read the my picture folder again when you re open light room

STF if I can give you advice make a folder for each outing you did Eg - Pilanesburg june 2013 and then copy your photo's into that folder :-)

Okay for it to re read the folder go to the top menu

OPEN FILE
IN THERE YOU WILL SEE IMPORT PHOTO'S
A new folder will open and on the left you will see a menu ,click on C drive
look for users it should be just above windows.
Click on users and it should scroll down
click on main and it should scroll down
In there you should see the folder My pictures
Click on that and all your photo's in my picture should be back again in the Catalog

Bottom right you will see import, click on that and it will import the folder and photo's back into the catalog again :-)

Go to library and all should be back :-)

Thanks so much PRWIN - it worked.

I deleted all the photos on Lightroom and downloaded from the camera again. Now I can edit my photos again.

Thanks also for the tips above. I will make folders in future - lesson learnt.

I do appreciate all you help and advice. \O \O \O \O
