Hi,
I have a Canon 50mm Macro that I use mainly for my close up botanical photography.
Have seen that a lot of people use a 105mm macro.
Can someone tell me what the difference is?
And which would be better to use?
Thanks
Dzombo

Hi Dzombo,
I'm not into macro photography, so can only point you in the direction of a possible answer to your question.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the link
So my understanding is the 105 mm will allow you to take the same (closeup) as the 50 mm but from further away?

Re: Macro Lenses
Dzombo, that how I understand it too, but what I don't understand is, it does not zoom so how does that work
Re: Macro Lenses
@JustN@ture,
This is how I understand it.
With a 50mm macro, you will get 1:1 at say 30cm away from the object being photographed.
But with a 105mm lense, you will get the same 1:1 at 60cm (both just figures out of my head). So when it comes to taking photos of insects for eg, then the 105mm would be better.
Anyone want to confirm?
Or not?

Re: Macro Lenses
Thats more or less the grit of it.
I use a 105 mm Nikon Micro and wouldn't change it with any other lens.
Using a 105 mm is also useful for general shots, it's sharp and very fast on focusing, the 105 reach allows you to take brilliant macro shots whithout having to be too close up to the subject you're taking a picture of.
